Family Therapy

Please email me at tim@timparkerphd.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on resolving conflicts and improving communication within a family system. My training in family systems theory provides me a great deal of knowledge for working with families. Here are some of the areas I have helped families:

  1. Improved communication: I have helped family members learn new ways to communicate with each other and express their thoughts and feelings effectively.
  2. Resolving conflicts: I have helped family members understand the underlying causes of conflicts and work together to find solutions.
  3. Strengthening relationships: A lot of families want to have stronger relationships and more support in their family. I have found family therapy to support growth in these areas.
  4. Addressing mental health issues: Sometimes families encounter various mental health issues. I have specific training in helping families navigate serious mental illness within the family.
  5. Enhancing problem-solving skills: Ultimately most families want to work together as a team. Often what gets in the way of teamwork is struggling to move beyond certain problems. I have experience in helping families not only learn problem-solving skills, but also enact them in a way that brings about change.
  6. Building empathy: However many family members there are, that indicates the number of perspectives that are present in the family. Family therapy can break down some of the barriers that prevent members from seeing others' perspectives.
  7. Grief: Experiencing the death of a loved one is often a challenging experience. I work with families in navigating their experience with grief.

My goal in working with families is to provide therapy that seeks what is best for the whole family. I do not find that my testimony in legal proceedings would be beneficial. I will work with families who want to work together towards shared goals during the divorce process. If called to testify, the nature of our relationship changes and you will be required to seek therapy with another provider. My fees for testimony in legal proceedings are $750 per hour with a four hour minimum charge. All charges accrue at the hour increment.

Family therapy sessions are 50-60 minutes. The fee for a family therapy session is $200. The number of sessions a family has varies greatly and is dependent on a number of factors.

For Texas clients I take Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, Oxford, United Health Care, and Oscar Health. For clients in Colorado, I take Aetna, Cigna, Oxford, United Health Care, and Oscar Health. I use Headway for my insurance billing. If you plan on using your insurance for my services please visit my profile there to get started. https://headway.co/providers/tim-parker

If I do not take your insurance I can provide you with a superbill for consideration as an out of network provider. I cannot guarantee you will be reimbursed by your insurance company in these instances.
